Free online 3D viewer
View 3D models online with SmartCAD’s free browser-based 3D viewer. Supports 18 formats including STEP, STL, OBJ, IFC, GLTF, FBX and IGES. Orbit, zoom and inspect from any angle — no installation, and your file is never uploaded.
How it works
Open your model
Drag a 3D model file onto the viewer, or click Open file to browse for one.
Orbit, zoom and inspect
Rotate the model freely, zoom in on details and pan to explore every angle.
Nothing is uploaded
The model is loaded locally in your browser and never sent to a server, so confidential designs stay private.
What it does
- 18 supported formats — STEP, STL, OBJ, IFC, GLTF, FBX, IGES, 3DM, DAE, PLY and more.
- Full 3D navigation — orbit, zoom and pan to inspect from any angle.
- WebGL rendering — runs locally on your device, nothing uploaded.
- Works everywhere — Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
3D viewer vs. DWG viewer — what’s the difference?
Both open CAD files in the browser — they’re built for different types of geometry.
Full 3D geometry
Built to render 3D solid and surface models — orbit the model freely, inspect it from any viewpoint, and explore depth and form.
2D technical drawings
Optimised for flat 2D drawings in DWG and DXF format — floor plans, schematics, engineering diagrams. Pan and zoom around a drawing with precise line detail.
Formats
All 18 formats are processed locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Working with 2D drawings instead?
Use the DWG Viewer for DWG and DXF files, or the DWG Editor to make changes. For full CAD, SmartCAD starts at $395 — one-time.
Questions
Which 3D file formats does the viewer support?
The viewer supports 18 formats: 3DM, 3DS, 3MF, AMF, BIM, BREP, DAE, FBX, FCSTD, GLTF, IFC, IGES, STEP, STL, OBJ, OFF, PLY and WRL.
Can I view a STEP file online?
Yes. The viewer opens STEP files (.step, .stp) directly in the browser with no installation. STEP is the standard exchange format for 3D CAD from programs such as CATIA, SolidWorks, Fusion 360 and FreeCAD.
Can I view an IFC file online?
Yes. The viewer supports IFC, the open standard format used in BIM (Building Information Modelling) workflows. Open an IFC file to inspect the building or infrastructure model in the browser without specialised BIM software.
Can I view STL files in the browser?
Yes. STL is one of the supported formats. It is the most common format for 3D printing, so you can inspect a print model in the browser before sending it to a printer.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every file is loaded and rendered locally in your browser using WebGL. Nothing is uploaded, so confidential CAD models and BIM files stay private.
Is the 3D viewer free?
Yes — completely free, with no account, no watermark and no usage limits.
