Questions

Can I edit a DWG file online for free?

Yes. SmartCAD’s online DWG editor lets you draw and edit DWG and DXF drawings directly in your browser, then save the result as a DXF file — completely free, with no installation.

Does it save back to DWG or DXF?

The editor saves your work as DXF, an open CAD format that opens in AutoCAD and virtually any other CAD program. Writing directly back to DWG isn’t supported in the browser.

Can I open an existing DWG file and edit it?

Yes. Open any DWG or DXF file, make your changes — lines, polylines, circles, text and more — then download the result as DXF.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The editor runs entirely in your browser. Your drawing is never uploaded or sent to a server.

Is this a full replacement for AutoCAD?

It covers quick edits and markups. For full CAD work, SmartCAD desktop is a complete AutoCAD-style application with a one-time perpetual license from $395.
